A Sonoma County DUI task force arrested 55 drivers Friday night in Santa Rosa, including 47 on suspicion of driving without a license. More than 1,000 vehicles were stopped by law enforcement officers from 13 law enforcement agencies including the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Rosa Police Department, Petaluma Police Department, and others throughout the county.
The DUI Checkpoint was set up on Morgan Street south of 5th Street in downtown Santa Rosa. Police Officers stopped more than 1,000 cars between 6 p.m. and midnight Friday July 5th to check if the drivers were impaired or driving without a license or when their driver’s license is suspended. Of the 1,027 total vehicles stopped, 889 drivers were checked for signed of driving under the influence and for valid licenses. 92 of those drivers were directed to another area for further investigation.
Only 1 person was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. (This is a similar result as a recent DUI checkpoint set up in Petaluma, CA- Read Article) Another 47 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving without a license, and 7 on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.
